A man was hit and critically injured by a SUV on Monday, November 30, 2009 in South Salt Lake City, Utah. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the victim, a 40-year-old male, walked into traffic at around 5:30 pm on 3300 South and 250 West. The driver who hit him attempted to help him but his injuries were very severe. The driver didn’t see the man because of the dark and the Salt Lake City police report that the victim “just stepped out in front of him all of a sudden.”
Emergency personnel were called and the man was taken to the hospital with head and leg injuries. The man, whose identity hasn’t been released, remains in critical condition.
We extend our best wishes to this gentleman as he recovers from his injuries.
In this case, I wonder if there were any witnesses to this pedestrian accident. As of right now, the news report is really just based on the account by the driver of the vehicle. If the event happened as the driver said it happened, then it doesn’t sound like there is any claim here as a motorist requires some amount of time to see the danger and to respond to it.
